NISO CALLS FOR STRONGER COLLABORATION TO BOOST GRID STABILITY

The Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, has called for stronger collaboration among power sector stakeholders to strengthen grid stability and reliability.

‎The Managing Director of NISO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, made the call at a workshop held at the Jebba Power Station, hosted by Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited.

‎He said the theme “Strengthening Grid Stability: A Collaborative Workshop for NESI Stakeholders” is timely, noting that a stable grid is the foundation of a secure and resilient electricity supply industry.

‎Engr. Mohammed identified key challenges facing the national grid to include generation and transmission constraints, frequency excursions, voltage issues, and changing demand patterns.

‎He explained that maintaining stability requires accurate operational data, adequate frequency and voltage control, effective reserve management, strict compliance with the Grid Code, and discipline across the value chain .

The NISO boss stressed that as Nigeria develops new generation and transmission projects, careful system planning will be critical to integrate them safely and ensure long-term grid reliability.

‎He urged participants to reach clear commitments on improving frequency and voltage control, and to establish practical coordination protocols among NISO, TCN, GenCos and DisCos for managing disturbances.

Engr. Mohammed reaffirmed NISO’s commitment to work with regulators and all NESI stakeholders to build a grid that is stable, resilient and capable of supporting Nigeria’s economic growth.
