The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed claims by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) that the reduction in its electricity allocation was caused by the tripping of transmission lines supplying Abuja from the Shiroro Transmission Substation.

‎In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, TCN said AEDC’s claim was inaccurate and misleading, stressing that the reduction in the distribution company’s allocation was caused by low electricity generation on the national grid.

AEDC had informed its customers of prevailing electricity supply constraints and attributed the reduction in its allocation from about 641 megawatts (MW) to 314MW to the alleged tripping of transmission lines supplying the Abuja axis from Shiroro.

‎However, TCN said there had been no tripping of the 330kV transmission lines supplying the Abuja axis, contrary to the information contained in AEDC’s statement.

The transmission company explained that all 330kV transmission lines within the Abuja Region were currently in circuit, adding that none of the lines had experienced the alleged tripping.

‎TCN therefore said the reduction in AEDC’s allocation and the resulting load shedding across its feeders could not be attributed to any fault on the company’s 330kV transmission network within the Abuja Region.

The company urged stakeholders to ensure the dissemination of accurate and clear information on developments within the electricity sector, noting that misleading information could create unnecessary concerns among electricity consumers.

‎TCN reaffirmed its commitment to efficiently transmitting available bulk electricity across the country while maintaining the stability, reliability and integrity of Nigeria’s transmission grid.
