The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has unveiled a new Load and Outage Analytics platform designed to improve monitoring, analysis and management of the national transmission network.

‎The platform was presented and demonstrated during a technical session held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at TCN’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, with management and staff in attendance.

The TCN Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, represented by the General Manager, Project Coordination, Engr. Aminu Tahir, commended the Operations Department for developing the platform. Abdulaziz said improved visibility of the transmission network would strengthen load management, supply-demand matching and grid stability, while helping to address technical and commercial losses.

The General Manager, Operations, Engr. Godwin Afamefuna Aguiyi, said the platform was developed to address challenges associated with TCN’s existing reliability reporting system, including fragmented data, manual reporting processes, inconsistent calculation of key performance indicators and the absence of a comprehensive audit trail.

According to Aguiyi, the Streamlit-based application has 13 modules and was developed entirely in-house by the Operations Department. He said it provides region, station, transformer and feeder-level views, automatically classifies outages, generates reliability reports and produces management-ready reports within minutes rather than days.

Demonstrating the platform with July 2026 data, Aguiyi said 3,714 outages were recorded nationwide, resulting in 48,603 megawatt-hours (MWh) of load lost. He said the Lagos Region accounted for 20,693 MWh, while 22 feeders exceeded allowable outage hours, with associated losses valued at ₦720.33 million. He stressed that the figures were based on field submissions and were intended for cross-referencing with the Nigerian Independent System Operator’s official data for the period.

The platform also incorporates the Fault Attribution Ratio, which helps determine responsibility for service interruptions between TCN and Distribution Companies (DisCos). Aguiyi said the system could also support monitoring of transmission losses if fully deployed alongside the required energy measurement devices, recommending nationwide deployment, Internet of Things integration and upgrades to infrastructure at transmission stations.

‎The Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Mrs. Abiodun Afolabi-Fadahunsi, reaffirmed management’s commitment to providing technical teams with the tools and resources required to strengthen grid stability. The unveiling represents a major step towards data-driven transmission operations, with TCN expected to use the platform to improve outage accountability, operational efficiency and reliability across the national grid.
