The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has assured industries along the 132kV Ikorodu-Sagamu corridor of sustained electricity supply, while warning that the Federal Government will take firm action against energy theft, meter tampering and other practices undermining the power sector.

Tegbe gave the assurance during a high-level engagement with industrial customers on the corridor, following concerns over discrepancies between electricity supplied and the energy accounted for by market participants.

The Ikorodu-Sagamu corridor has become a major industrial cluster serving some of Nigeria’s largest electricity consumers. According to the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), technology-based monitoring systems introduced since 2024 have provided greater visibility into power flows and exposed anomalies in energy consumption and loading patterns.

The discrepancies, which had become more pronounced by 2026, reportedly resulted in losses of up to 100 megawatts on the corridor and financial losses estimated at N120 billion within a year.

Tegbe said the government’s priority was to ensure that industries have reliable electricity to sustain production and investment, but stressed that improved supply must be matched by responsible consumption and accurate payment. “We must know where the power is going and what is compromising it,” he said, directing stakeholders to establish the facts through transparent, scientific and fair investigations.

‎The Minister warned that the government would not tolerate meter tampering, deliberate interference with energy measurement, manipulation of data or any other form of energy theft capable of depriving the electricity market of legitimate revenue. He stressed that every consumer must be accountable for its electricity consumption and actions.

Tegbe said the intervention was part of broader Federal Government efforts to strengthen accountability and financial discipline across the electricity value chain while maintaining a stable operating environment for productive industries. He urged stakeholders to approach the process with openness and a commitment to resolving outstanding issues.

‎The meeting was attended by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer and Executive Directors of NISO, representatives of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Managing Directors of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and Ikeja Electric, as well as representatives of companies operating along the corridor.
