2025 DECEMBER INFLATION RATE DROPS TO 15.15%
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has released the December 2025 inflation rate, and it’s a welcome relief for Nigerians. The year-on-year Headline inflation rate stood at 15.15%, a significant decrease from 17.33% in November 2025 and 34.80% in December 2024.
Breaking it down further, the Urban inflation rate was 14.85% year-on-year, while the Rural inflation rate was 14.56%. On a month-on-month basis, the Urban inflation rate rose to 0.99%, but the Rural inflation rate declined to -0.55%. This indicates a slight decrease in price increases in rural areas.
Food inflation also showed a decline, standing at 10.84% year-on-year and -0.36% month-on-month.
This can be attributed to decreases in prices of items like tomatoes, garri, eggs, and vegetables.
Overall, the inflation rate trends show a decrease in price increases, providing some respite for Nigerians. However, it’s essential to continue monitoring the situation and implementing policies to sustain this trend. That’s the economic update for now.
