The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, says Nigeria is committed to deepening its bilateral partnership with Denmark in trade, investment and sustainable development. Bagudu stated this in Abuja when he received the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Jens Ole Bach Hansen, who paid a courtesy visit to the ministry.

‎The minister said Nigeria values its longstanding relationship with Denmark and is willing to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including agriculture, livestock development, the digital economy, the blue economy and the judicial sector.

‎He added that both countries can collaborate on peace and security, knowledge sharing and addressing common challenges such as irregular migration. Bagudu also said Nigeria’s policy is focused on building strong partnerships with countries that share its commitment to inclusive growth, sustainable development and shared prosperity.

Speaking on the economic reforms of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, the minister said the Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on addressing decades of underinvestment and creating a transparent and competitive environment for private-sector investment. He disclosed that Nigeria had attracted about $7 billion in infrastructure investment over the past 2 years, describing the development as a sign of growing investor confidence.

‎The Danish Ambassador, Jens Ole Bach Hansen, reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Nigeria, citing shared values and common interests in democracy, development, stability and international cooperation. He disclosed that Denmark is expanding its diplomatic presence in Nigeria and deploying additional personnel to focus on areas including politics, defence and agriculture.

Ambassador Hansen also highlighted existing cooperation in agriculture, maritime development and security, and the digital economy, while expressing interest in further collaboration in education, culture, the creative economy and the judicial sector. He proposed discussions towards a broader political partnership framework to provide a structured platform for advancing cooperation between Nigeria and Denmark across various sectors.
