APPMEN INAUGURATES LAGOS STATE COUNCIL

The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishment of Nigeria, APPMEN, has inaugurated its Lagos State Council.

‎The ceremony was held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at No. 133, Idimu Ejigbo Road, Alimosho, Lagos.

The National Coordinator, Chief Precious Enebuse, inaugurated the council virtually via Zoom from Abuja.

‎Enebuse described Lagos as the heartbeat and media capital of Africa. He said private media owners are the most oppressed and least protected, adding that APPMEN will serve as their voice.

‎He announced Princess Agbonifo as State Coordinator and Onome Naomi Onojaefe as State Publicity Secretary to support her.

In her acceptance speech, Princess Agbonifo unveiled a three-point agenda tagged the 3 Ps – Professionalism, Protection and Prosperity.

‎She said the council will organize quarterly masterclasses on fact-checking, investigative reporting and monetization through the APPMEN Institute for Communication and Media Studies.

She said a Rapid Response Desk will be set up to protect members from harassment and intimidation, and a cooperative will be established to facilitate monetization and grants.

The Grand Patron, in his message, described Lagos as the cradle and powerhouse of African press, noting that the first newspaper in Nigeria, Iwe Irohin, was founded in Lagos in 1859.

‎The council resolved to be loyal to the National Secretariat and called on unregistered private media proprietors in Lagos to join the association.
