NEDL DISCONNECTS GWADA, ERENA FEEDERS OVER UNPAID BILLS

The Niger Electricity Distribution Limited, NEDL, has disconnected electricity supply to Gwada and Erena communities in Niger State.

‎The disconnection affects the 132kV Shiroro Transmission Station – 33kV Gwada Feeder and the 132kV Shiroro Transmission Station – 33kV Erena Feeder.

The company announced this in a public notice issued on Saturday, saying the action takes immediate effect.

‎It said the action followed persistent accumulation of unpaid electricity bills by customers served by the feeders.

‎It said disconnection notices were issued to affected customers in July 2026, giving them opportunity to settle their bills and regularize their accounts.

NEDL said it is aware that some consumers believe their status as host communities to Shiroro Hydroelectric Power Station exempts them from paying for electricity.

‎It said proximity to a power generation facility does not exempt customers from paying for electricity consumed.

‎It said all customers supplied through its distribution network are required to pay in accordance with applicable tariffs and regulatory framework.

It said persistent non-payment undermines financial sustainability and limits its ability to maintain and improve service delivery.

‎The company said it has exhausted avenues for engagement, sensitization and amicable resolution and acted in line with regulatory requirements.

It urged affected customers to settle outstanding bills and contact its customer service channels for regularization and restoration of supply.

‎It also appealed to community leaders, traditional institutions and law enforcement agencies to support payment compliance and protection of electricity infrastructure.
