BENIN CITY, Nigeria — The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has arrested a suspected vandal caught tampering with equipment in its 330kV switchyard in Benin.

‎The suspect was identified as Wisdom Amaunam, 24, from Erediauwa Community.

‎

‎TCN said a security officer on patrol caught him at about 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, removing cables and wires from a marshalling kiosk.

‎

‎He was handed over to the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for investigation. He remains in custody pending investigation and possible court charges.

‎

‎TCN praised its security staff and the NSCDC for their vigilance and teamwork in protecting power infrastructure.

‎

‎The company said it has zero tolerance for vandalism, trespassing and sabotage. It urged host communities and the public to report suspicious activity around transmission facilities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
