CBN LAUNCHES NON RESIDENCE BVN PLATFORM    TO EXPAND FINANCIAL ACCESS FOR NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has officially launched the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) platform, a digital gateway that allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without the need for a physical presence in Nigeria.

This initiative aims to enhance financial inclusion and provide easier access to financial services for Nigerians abroad.

Governor Cardoso Highlights Benefits

Speaking at the launch event in Abuja, CBN Governor Mr. Olayemi Cardoso described the NRBVN as a milestone in Nigeria’s financial inclusion journey. He emphasized that the platform will enable Nigerians worldwide to access financial services more easily and affordably, bridging the gap between the country and its global citizens.

The Governor noted that remittance flows through formal channels have increased from $3.3 billion in 2023 to $4.73 billion in 2024, and the CBN is optimistic about reaching its $1 billion monthly remittance target with the NRBVN in place.

The platform is part of a broader framework that includes the Non-Resident Ordinary Account (NROA) and Non-Resident Nigerian Investment Account (NRNIA), enabling access to savings, mortgages, insurance, pensions, and investment opportunities in Nigeria’s capital markets.
