CBN WARNS NIGERIANS AGAINST ONLINE FRAUD SCHEMES

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)has warned Nigerians about the circulation of fake messages and online communications falsely claiming to come from the Bank, and urged the public to remain cautious to avoid falling victim to fraud.

In a statement issued on Tuesday night and signed by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi-Ali, the apex bank said it had observed an increase in fraudulent emails, text messages, and online posts designed to mislead people and gain access to their personal information.
The statement explained that these fake communications often contain links that prompt unsuspecting recipients to click, with the aim of hacking into their personal accounts.
The apex bank advised Nigerians to be vigilant and avoid interacting with suspicious links or websites, stressing that individuals should not share personal or financial details on platforms that appear questionable or unverified.
The Bank also urged the public to confirm any information about its activities through its official website or trusted media channels, noting that this remains the safest way to verify genuine communications.
