CUSTOMS LAUNCH E-CLEARANCE SYSTEM TO EASE PORT CONGESTION

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has implemented a new automated overtime e-clearance system to alleviate congestion at ports and enhance trade facilitation.

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) disclosed the digital platform on the Service’s official X account.

Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi emphasized the system’s goal of efficient cargo clearance, warning against usage abuse and underscoring the importance of accountability.

The platform allows consignees to remotely submit and track applications, reducing manual interference and potential corruption.

With an extension of the clearance window for overtime cargoes from 30 to 120 days, the NCS also aims to boost transparency through an upgraded e-auction portal that requires valid identification for participation.

This initiative is expected to improve efficiency in trade logistics and decrease abandoned consignments.
