The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to transform the Nigerian Army University Biu, NAUB, into a leading institution for military and civilian capacity building. He made the pledge on Friday in Abuja while receiving the university’s Governing Council at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters.

General Musa said NAUB is critical to equipping military personnel with the technical and operational expertise needed to tackle complex security challenges facing the country. He stressed that investing in specialised education is key to strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture in this digital era.

To bridge skill gaps in the security sector, the Minister disclosed that the Ministry of Defence will work directly with the Armed Forces to fully utilize the 30 percent admission quota allocated to military personnel. He encouraged service members, ministry staff, and the public to take advantage of the university’s cutting-edge academic and technological programmes.

A major outcome of the meeting was a joint commitment to urgently address infrastructure needs at the university. The Minister and the Governing Council agreed to prioritize key projects to improve teaching, research, and training facilities at the Biu campus.

Among the planned projects is the construction of a state-of-the-art Centre for Military Performance Management. The Ministry said the facility will be the first of its kind in Africa and is aimed at enhancing the professional development of military personnel.

Earlier, the Pioneer Pro-Chancellor of NAUB, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd), commended General Musa for his leadership and strategic foresight. He said the Minister’s contributions continue to strengthen national defence and expressed appreciation for his dedication to the Armed Forces and the nation.

Lt. General Buratai also assured the Minister of the university community’s commitment to academic excellence, research, and national service. The meeting was attended by members of the NAUB Governing Council and senior officials of the Ministry of Defence.
