EX-BANGLADESH PM HASINA ON TRIAL FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY
A special court in Bangladesh has started the trial of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her aides for allegedly being involved in the violent suppression of a mass uprising that led to the fall of Hasina’s government in 2024.
According to media report, the International Crimes Tribunal panel ordered the trial to begin against Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and former police Chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
The trio faces charges related to crimes against humanity committed during the handling of the student-led protests of 2024. A UN fact-finding mission estimates that around 1,400 people were killed during the protests.
