EX SUPER EAGLES STAR ODION IGHALO BACKS ERIC CHELLE FOR IMPROVED CONTRACT EXTENSION
Former Nigeria international Odion Ighalo has called on the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to grant Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle a contract extension following the team’s bronze-medal finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Chelle, whose current 50,000 dollars a month deal has 10 months remaining, is reportedly seeking a salary increase to 130,000 dollars.
Under his leadership, Nigeria reached the semi-finals before a controversial 2-1 loss to the hosts, eventually securing third place by defeating Egypt 4-2 on penalties.
Speaking to newsmen, the former Manchester United striker emphasized that Chelle has brought much-needed stability to the national team setup.
Ighalo therefore warned that frequent coaching changes have historically undermined the team’s progress, urging the NFF to secure the technical department’s future to ensure qualification for the next FIFA World Cup.
