FCCPC DEMANDS BETTER SERVICES FROM TELCOS AS IT INCREASES TARRIF TO 50%

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, has weighed in on the recent 50% increase in telecommunications tariffs approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.

While acknowledging the economic pressures faced by telecom operators, the FCCPC emphasized that consumer interests remain paramount .

According to the FCCPC, the NCC’s decision to link the tariff adjustment to improvements in service quality is a step in the right direction.
In a release signed by Director,Corporate Affairs on The commission,Ondaje Ijagwe,FCCPC commended the NCC for adopting a measured approach, which demonstrates a thoughtful effort to balance industry sustainability with consumer protection .

The FCCPC also welcomed the NCC’s directive to operators to ensure transparency in their tariffs, making it easier for consumers to make informed decisions.

However, the FCCPC stressed that tariff adjustments must translate into tangible service improvements for consumers.
