FEDERAL GOVERNMENT APPROVES REVAMP OF MUDA LAWAL STADIUM IN ABEOKUTA

The Federal Government has approved the renovation of the Muda Lawal Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The National Sports Commission, NSC, announced that the project will include installation of new tartan tracks and rehabilitation of existing facilities to meet modern standards, the NSC said.
NSC Director General Bukola Olopade said the revamp recognises the legacy of Mudashiru Babatunde Lawal, the former Green Eagles midfielder from Abeokuta who scored in Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Algeria in the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations final, the country’s first continental title.
The Commission also announced infrastructure support for the next three host states of the National Sports Festival. Enugu State, the next host, will receive a new Olympic-size swimming pool, an upgraded indoor sports hall and rehabilitated athletes’ hostels ahead of the Games.

The NSC added that both projects form part of the Tinubu administration’s broader infrastructure programme for sports development nationwide.
