FEDERAL GOVERNMENT UNVEILS 250 MILLION DOLLAR EMPOWERMENT  SCHEME FOR FLOOD DISPLACED NIGERIANS

President Bola Tinubu has launched a 10-year, $250 million initiative to support Nigerians displaced by climate-related disasters.

This was announced in  statement on Wednesday  by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yomi Odunuga.

The President, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, noted he Climate-Resilient Livelihoods Empowerment Program for Displaced Populations (CLEP4DPS) aims to empower displaced persons through climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy entrepreneurship, and digital employment .

The program reflects the government’s shift from emergency responses to long-term solutions that strengthen resilience and preserve human dignity.

It will focus on green value chains, climate data, and dedicated leadership tracks for women and youth.

CLEP4DPS complements other initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the Global Flood Disaster Management Project. This project focuses on early warning systems, resilient infrastructure, and community engagement nationwide.

The government has also been supporting displaced families through targeted relief and resettlement efforts, including the Resettlement City Project. This project provides planned communities with access to basic services and livelihood support.

The initiative is part of Nigeria’s efforts to address climate-induced mobility, a transnational challenge that requires international cooperation and people-centered policies.
