‎FG INAUGURATES SUBCOMMITTEE ON FISCAL POLICY, TAX REFORMS

The Federal Government has inaugurated the Technical Subcommittee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms to drive continuous improvement of Nigeria’s tax system.

Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, who inaugurated the subcommittee in Abuja, said the task is not to rewrite the 2025 tax reforms but to make them work better.

‎Oyedele said the reforms culminated in four major tax laws which took effect on January 1st, but implementation has revealed areas needing clarification and simplification.

He said the subcommittee will also review the 2024 Withholding Tax Regulations and the 2020 Significant Economic Presence Order to align them with new tax laws and global best practices.

‎The subcommittee, which comprises representatives of finance ministry, justice ministry, revenue service and the private sector, has six weeks to submit its report.

He added that the committee received 134 submissions from across the country, with calls for simpler tax laws, an end to multiple taxation, and faster digitalization.
