FGN Power Company (FGNPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening technical capacity and promoting innovation in Nigeria’s power sector through its support for the Visiola Foundation’s 2026 STEM Summer Camp in Abuja.

‎The week-long programme, which culminated in a closing competition in Abuja, provided young participants with practical exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The students designed and built renewable energy prototypes before presenting their solutions to a panel of judges.

‎As part of FGNPC’s support for the initiative, its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kenny Anuwe, served as chief judge at the closing competition. He evaluated the students’ projects based on their technical understanding, presentation, creativity, usefulness and potential impact.

‎Speaking at the event, Anuwe said investment in young Nigerians was essential to developing the technical capacity needed to transform the country’s power sector. He added that the Federal Government could not build the sector alone and required partnerships with public and private organisations.

‎According to him, FGNPC remains open to collaborations with organisations such as the Visiola Foundation to expand capacity-building opportunities for young Nigerians. He cited the company’s Siemens Energy Education & Development (SEED) and Power Training Institute (PTI) workstreams as initiatives aimed at strengthening engineers’ skills in power system simulation, network studies and system planning.

‎Anuwe said the objectives of the STEM Summer Camp aligned with FGNPC’s commitment to developing the next generation of engineers, scientists, innovators and energy professionals. The students were assessed on their ability to identify renewable energy challenges, develop functional solutions, explain the technology behind their prototypes and demonstrate the potential impact of their ideas.

‎FGNPC commended the Visiola Foundation for providing a platform for young Nigerians to apply STEM knowledge to real-world challenges. The company said early investment in STEM education was critical to building a pipeline of talent capable of supporting Nigeria’s energy transition and contributing to a more reliable, sustainable and efficient power sector.

The Visiola Foundation is a non-profit organisation that educates, trains and mentors African girls and young women from underserved communities. The foundation said it has trained more than 24,000 girls over the past 13 years through STEM camps, after-school STEM clubs in government secondary schools and coding boot camps. FGN Power Company is a special purpose vehicle mandated to implement the Presidential Power Initiative, with a mission to address infrastructure gaps and deliver reliable and incremental energy to customers across Nigeria.
