GOVERNOR,CARDOSO CHALLENGES AFRICA TO CREATE INDUSTRIES TO BOOST EMPLOYMENT

Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, says Africa must grow, industrialise, and create jobs while decarbonising and building climate resilience . He spoke at the Egypt 30by30 Programme, emphasising a shared vision for a resilient, climate-aware, and sustainable Africa.

Cardoso stressed that resilience starts with credibility, highlighting Nigeria’s reforms strengthening macroeconomic fundamentals and boosting financial system confidence. He advocates for trustworthy institutions, credible policies, and risk-aware innovation.

Climate risk is financial risk, affecting sovereign ratings, inflation, and food security, Cardoso noted. Africa contributes little to climate change but bears high costs, yet offers opportunities in renewable energy and biodiversity.

Africa must innovate together, transparently, and committedly to build resilient financial systems, Cardoso said. He emphasises stability and sustainability are key to Africa’s financial future.

The engagement highlighted Africa’s need for dual commitment to stability and sustainability, building a resilient and inclusive financial system to withstand shocks and thrive.
