The House of Representatives Committee on Public Assets has pledged to work with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC, to resolve funding and community issues delaying the abandoned 330kV Double Circuit Ikot Ekpene–Ikot Abasi Transmission Line Project, Lot 18T.


Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Ademorin Kuye, gave the assurance after leading members on an inspection of the project site. The team assessed the level of work done and met with community leaders, the contractor Anita Energy, and NDPHC officials. Other members on the visit included Hon. Tunji Akinosi, Hon. Jaafaru Yakubu and Hon. Patrick Umoh.

Hon. Kuye said the visit is part of the committee’s ongoing investigation into abandoned Federal Government assets. He noted that huge investments have been made in some projects over the years and government must ensure those investments do not go to waste.

According to the Chairman, both NDPHC and the contractor have expressed readiness to return to site once outstanding issues are resolved. He described the transmission line as very important for the host communities, Akwa Ibom State, and the national economy.

Kuye said completing the project will improve electricity infrastructure, boost businesses, support farmers and artisans, enhance security, and drive socio-economic development across Akwa Ibom and neighbouring states.


The lawmaker commended members of the host communities for safeguarding project materials. He confirmed that wires, towers and other equipment are still intact after more than six years, and described it as a sign of cooperation and commitment.


Hon. Kuye urged NDPHC to expedite payment of outstanding compensation to affected landowners. He said settling the balance will allow the contractor to return to site and complete the project. He also assured that the National Assembly will work with Federal, State and Local Governments to remove all obstacles.


The Village Head of Adiasim Ikot, Chief Joseph Gall Udo, appealed to government and NDPHC to settle compensation claims and address other issues. He said the community wants the contractor back because the project will benefit the people. When completed, the 330kV line is expected to strengthen the national grid by evacuating power from the Niger Delta and improving supply to industries and households.
