NCDC CONFIRMS NO EBOLA CASE IN NIGERIA
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that no case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has been recorded in Nigeria, even as it continues to monitor an ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and reported cases in Uganda linked to cross-border transmission.
The Director-General (DG) of NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris, on Sunday in a public health advisory on the situation, noted that health authorities in the affected countries have activated emergency response measures to contain the outbreak.
According to him, response efforts in the DRC and Uganda include enhanced surveillance, laboratory testing, infection prevention and control, case management, contact tracing and risk communication, with support from international partners.
The NCDC said it is working closely with stakeholders, including the Port Health Services under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, to strengthen surveillance and preparedness across Nigeria, particularly in view of increasing regional population movement.
It stressed that continuous monitoring of global and regional developments remains ongoing to prevent importation of the disease into the country.
Idris said the agency is maintaining surveillance systems for Ebola and other epidemic-prone diseases while strengthening key response activities nationwide.
