The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has dismissed reports circulating on some online platforms alleging that its workers are planning to embark on an industrial action, describing the claims as false and misleading. The Council said there is no planned or contemplated strike within the organisation.

‎The clarification followed a joint meeting between NEPC Management and the leadership of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), NEPC Unit. In a statement issued by the Head of Corporate Communications, Aliu Seidu Sadiq, the Council urged the exporting community and the general public to disregard the reports, insisting that industrial harmony remains intact.

‎According to the statement, the ASCSN Unit Chairman, Comrade Moruf Ogunlana, reaffirmed the Union’s confidence in the Council’s leadership and stated that neither the Union nor its members were consulted on any alleged strike action. He also distanced the Union from the online publications and pledged its continued cooperation with Management.

‎The Council also dismissed reports alleging the appointment of new directors, explaining that no such appointments had been made. NEPC said Management would continue to work with the existing organisational structure while strengthening staff capacity through training and professional development to improve service delivery.

NEPC further highlighted efforts aimed at staff welfare and career progression, noting that since 2023, more than 75 per cent of its workforce has received professional training. It added that the current leadership has expanded opportunities for career advancement by widening the directorate cadre and introducing initiatives such as the Export Skills Acquisition Centre (ESAC), which has trained over 500 youths and women in garment and bag production for export.

On allegations of favouritism and nepotism, both Management and the Union described the claims as unfounded. The Union maintained that the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Nonye Ayeni, has demonstrated fairness, professionalism and inclusiveness in the administration of the Council, ensuring equal treatment of employees irrespective of ethnic or other considerations.

The Council also pointed to its recent achievements, including Nigeria’s record non-oil export value of $6.1 billion in 2025 and the implementation of third-party certification programmes covering HACCP, FDA, HALAL and ISO standards, which have supported more than 150 exporters in accessing international markets.

‎NEPC further urged the public to disregard the alleged strike reports, reaffirming its commitment to industrial harmony and the advancement of Nigeria’s non-oil export sector in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
