NIGERIA OFFERS SOLUTION TO DEBT CRISIS IN DEVELOPING ECONOMIES
Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th UN General Assembly, has emphasized the need for reforms to address the debt crisis in developing economies and improve access to trade and financing.
He proposed establishing an international financial court to manage sovereign debt and stressed the importance of Nigeria having a permanent seat on the UN Security Council as part of institutional reforms.
President Tinubu outlined four critical imperatives for the UN: promoting sovereign debt relief, ensuring host countries benefit from their mineral resources, closing the digital divide, and reaffirming the importance of a two-state solution for Palestine.
He criticized the UN’s credibility and effectiveness and called for urgent action to promote peace, development, and prosperity in Africa.
