The Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has been elected Chairman of the African Accountants-General. The election took place during the Association’s Annual General Meeting held in the Kingdom of Eswatini on July 24, 2026.

Dr. Ogunjimi secured a landslide victory, polling 83 percent of the total votes cast. Tanzania came second with 11 percent, while the Republic of The Gambia received 6 percent.

‎His election reflects the confidence member countries have in his leadership, professional competence, and commitment to improving public financial management across Africa.

‎The result also highlights international recognition of Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and reforms in public sector financial administration under the current administration.

‎As Chairman, Dr. Ogunjimi is expected to provide strategic leadership to advance collaboration among African countries. He will also promote best practices in public financial management and strengthen institutional capacity across the continent.

‎The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation has congratulated Dr. Ogunjimi on the achievement. The Office expressed confidence that his leadership will enhance cooperation among African nations in achieving sound public financial management.
