NLC THREATENS TO SHUT DOWN NIGERIA’S ECONOMY IF LABOUR LEADER AJAERO NOT RELEASED.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on monday referred to the arrest of its Union’s President, Joe Ajaero by the Department of the State Service (DSS) as a “brazen act of lawlessness and intimidation” since he has not been declared wanted by any law enforcement body.
Newsmen earlier reported that Ajaero was arrested in Abuja on Monday when he was about to board a flight to the United Kingdom, for an official assignment.
Confirming his arrest, the Congress in a statement said Ajaero was “seized and whisked away by agents of the Nigerian State while on his way to the United Kingdom on the invitation of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Britain.”
The statement signed by the NLC Head of Information and Public Affairs Benson Upah, claimed that Ajaero had been detained without any legal warrant or formal instrument.
He further lamented that “His detention is therefore a brazen act of lawlessness and intimidation as he has not been declared wanted by any law enforcement body, a brazen act of intimidation and completely unjustified under the laws of Nigeria nation.
