The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, has warned members of the public to beware of fake recruitment adverts circulating online and on social media. The commission said it is not currently conducting any recruitment exercise.

‎In a public notice, the NUPRC urged job seekers to disregard any announcement, email, text message or letter claiming that the commission is hiring. It described such adverts as the handiwork of fraudsters seeking to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.

‎The commission explained that scammers have been using fake letterheads, forged documents and unofficial email addresses to invite applicants for non-existent job interviews. It said the aim of the syndicate is to extort money from desperate job seekers.

‎NUPRC emphasized that all legitimate recruitment announcements from the commission will only be made through official channels. These include national newspapers, the NUPRC website, and verified social media platforms.

The regulator added that its recruitment process, whenever it commences, will be transparent, merit-based and will not require applicants to pay any money. It warned that the commission does not charge any processing or employment fees.

‎The NUPRC advised the public to verify any information relating to jobs directly from its official website and platforms before taking action. It also urged anyone contacted by scammers to report the incident to relevant law enforcement agencies.

The warning comes amid rising cases of job scams targeting Nigerians across government agencies. The commission said it remains committed to protecting the public and will notify Nigerians officially whenever a genuine recruitment exercise begins.
