POWER MINISTER ADELABU CLEARS MISCONCEPTIONS ON 8 BILLION NAIRA SENSITIZATION ALLOCATION

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has clarified the misconceptions surrounding the N8 billion budgetary allocation for the power sector.

Contrary to claims that the fund is meant for sensitizing Nigerians on payment of electricity bills, Adelabu explained that the amount is specifically earmarked for advocacy, education, and enlightenment on protecting power infrastructure .

The Minister emphasized that the Federal Government is concerned about the increasing cases of vandalism and sabotage that have hindered the progress made in electricity supply over the past year and a half.

He noted that the advocacy program will entail sensitization across all 774 local government areas, 36 states, and the Federal Capital Territory, using various platforms such as radio, television, social media, and newspapers .

Adelabu also highlighted the need for community involvement in protecting power infrastructure, stating that the Ministry will engage with local stakeholders, youths, and community leaders to promote ownership and responsibility.

The advocacy program will also involve the deployment of technology to safeguard power assets and CSR projects to motivate host communities to protect power installations .
