The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has called for stronger collaboration between the Ministry and the Nigeria Police Force to protect critical power infrastructure across the country. Tegbe made the call during a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The minister, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary and other members of the ministry’s management team, identified the vandalisation of power infrastructure as a major threat to the sector. He called for increased surveillance of critical installations and sustained cooperation between the ministry and the police.

‎Tegbe commended the performance of the Nigeria Police Force under the present administration, particularly since the appointment of IGP Disu. He said stronger inter-agency collaboration was necessary to safeguard power assets and support ongoing reforms in the sector.

‎While responding to the Minister, the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, reaffirmed the commitment of the force to protecting critical national infrastructure, including power assets. He also pledged to support efforts to strengthen energy security and ensure the prosecution of vandals and other perpetrators of crimes in the power sector.

IGP Disu expressed willingness to work with the Ministry of Power to establish a joint task force dedicated to protecting power infrastructure. He assured the minister of the police force’s full cooperation, noting the critical and vulnerable nature of power-sector assets and personnel.

The engagement is part of the ministry’s efforts to improve the reliability of Nigeria’s power supply through stronger inter-agency collaboration. The initiative is also in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
