
PRESIDENT TINUBU INAUGURATES NATIONAL CENSUS COMMITTEE
President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a high-level committee on the forthcoming national population and housing census.
The committee, chaired by Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, is tasked with submitting an interim report within three weeks.
The President emphasized the importance of accurate data for national development, planning, and decision-making in critical sectors like healthcare, education, security, and economic planning.
President Tinubu stressed the need for a technology-driven process to ensure credible and verifiable results.
He directed the committee to explore domestic and international resources to fund the census, emphasizing collaboration with relevant agencies.
The eight-member committee is expected to recommend practical solutions for mobilizing resources to fund the census. Senator Bagudu assured the President that the committee will deliver its report within the three-week deadline.
With Nigeria’s last census recording a population of 140,431,790 in 2006, this exercise aims to provide updated data for better planning
