President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will officially inaugurate the newly renovated National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as part of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary celebrations. The theatre has been renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts in honor of the Nobel Laureate.

The renovation, executed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bankers’ Committee, marks a bold investment in Nigeria’s cultural heritage and creative future.

The facility now meets the highest global standards for theatre and performance, featuring upgraded Systems.

The reopening ceremony will feature furniture by the National Troupe and other leading artists, as well as special remarks from Prof. Wole Soyinka. CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso will deliver the welcome address.

The renovated National Arts Theatre is expected to serve as a launchpad for Nigeria’s creative industries and a celebration of the country’s rich cultural legacy.
