PRESIDENT TINUBU URGES UNITY AS APC PRIMARIES BEGIN NATIONWIDE
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on All Progressives Congress members to uphold unity and sportsmanship as the party begins its nationwide primary elections.
In a statement on May 14, 2026, Tinubu said the primaries, starting with House of Representatives aspirants and ending with the presidential contest on May 25, are a test of the party’s unity, resilience and strength.
Tinubu noted that the APC was founded on progressive politics, consensus democracy and sacrifice, principles that have helped the party through four election cycles.
He welcomed ongoing efforts by party leaders to produce consensus candidates, saying the approach would reduce rancour and strengthen party cohesion.
The President cautioned winners against gloating and losers against bitterness, stressing that politics should not be a zero-sum game. He directed party leaders and governors to ensure a fair and level playing field for all aspirants, and appealed for greater inclusion of women and youth in the contest. He also called on security agencies to remain professional and focus only on ensuring peaceful conduct.
