QUARTER 4 2024 NERC REPORT REVEALS REVENUE GENERATION OF ₦509.84BILLION

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC has issued a total of 70 licenses, permits, and certifications in its efforts to deregulate the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry. This move aims to enhance easy access to power supply across the country.

According to the Commission’s fourth-quarter report, the licenses issued include one off-grid generation license, three new electricity trading licenses, and four captive generation permits, among others. The Commission also issued 14 Rectification Directives and 16 Notices of Intention to Commence Enforcement to licensees for different breaches and defaults during the quarter.

In terms of revenue collection, the report reveals that power Distribution Companies, or DisCos, recorded a total revenue collection of ₦509.84 billion out of ₦658.40 billion billed to customers in the fourth quarter of 2024. This represents a collection efficiency of 77.44%.

However, the report also highlights some challenges, including the low remittances by Special and Bilateral Customers. The six international bilateral customers purchasing power from the grid-connected GenCos made a cumulative payment of $5.21 million against the $14.05 million invoice issued to them.

Despite these challenges, the Commission  says it  is working to strengthen compliance and enforcement in the industry. The report also notes that the number of customer complaints decreased by 16.13% compared to the previous quarter, with metering, billing, and service interruption being the prevalent issues .
