RURAL ELECTRIFICATION AGENCY, REA LAUNCHES SOLAR MINI GRID IN KADUNA

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has launched a 100 kWp solar mini-grid in Damau village, Kaduna State, providing constant power and clean water to over 2,500 residents. The project is part of a broader initiative to expand energy access through clean, renewable technology.

The installation is one of 39 mini-grid projects being finalized across the country under the 2024 Federal Government Capital Subvention.

REA Managing Director, Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, stated that the Damau mini-grid shows how renewable energy can meet local demands and called for partnerships with state governments to modernize Nigeria’s rural landscape.

The project has delivered visible results, energizing residential buildings, commercial hubs, and public facilities.

The REA’s approach focuses on renewable energy solutions tied to productive and social infrastructure, ensuring energy systems are economically viable and impactful. The agency prioritized consultations with local leaders, ensuring the project was built on mutual trust and accountability.

The Agency is assessing ways to scale the facility, ensuring the community’s energy supply keeps pace with its economic development. This project reflects a shift in how rural electrification is being delivered in Nigeria, with a focus on community-first, sustainable solutions.
