The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will on Thursday, August 6, 2026, hold an investor clinic in Abuja to educate investors and beneficiaries on how to recover unclaimed funds and inherited investments in the Nigerian capital market.

‎The programme, themed “Probate and Unclaimed Monies Awareness and Investor Clinic,” is part of a nationwide awareness campaign being implemented in collaboration with Meristem Registrars and Probate Services Limited. The initiative is designed to enhance investor protection, improve financial literacy and boost confidence in the capital market.

‎Speaking on the initiative, the Director-General of the SEC, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, said the campaign would help investors and beneficiaries understand the procedures for recovering investments while reinforcing public trust in the Nigerian capital market.

According to Agama, investor protection remains central to the Commission’s mandate, adding that the awareness campaign brings together regulators and capital market operators to guide investors through the claims process and facilitate the recovery of funds and investments due to them.

The Commission said many investors and beneficiaries remain unaware that they may be entitled to unclaimed monies arising from mergers, acquisitions, return funds, scheme considerations or inherited investments belonging to deceased relatives, largely because they are unfamiliar with the required documentation and claims procedures.

‎SEC explained that the one-day programme, to be held at its Abuja headquarters, will feature representatives of key institutions involved in investor protection, estate administration and capital market operations. Participants will receive practical guidance and one-on-one support on issues relating to unclaimed investments, probate, share transmission, share ownership and beneficiary claims.

‎The Commission encouraged shareholders with outstanding claims, beneficiaries of deceased investors, executors and administrators of estates, legal practitioners, investment advisers and prospective investors to attend the free clinic with available supporting documents. It also advised members of the public to deal only with SEC-registered market operators, stressing that genuine investment claims should never be processed through unauthorised channels, while reaffirming its commitment to a fair, transparent and inclusive capital market.
