SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGE BY CLIMATE..

In addressing the pressing Sustainable Development challenge posed by Climate Change in the Water Sanitation and Hygiene Sector, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF has revealed plans for a strategic partnership with States across the country to tackle this critical issue.

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr.  Joseph  Utsev, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Shinkafi , made this known  at the Opening ceremony of a 3-day National Workshop on State Action Plan on Climate Change organised by the Ministry in conjunction with United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF  in Abuja.

Prof. Utseve emphasized  that one of the Sectors greatly affected by Climate Change is the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Sector and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to develop holistic solutions to tackle the challenges posed by climate change, including greenhouse gas emissions and synthetic chemicals.

In  the statement signed by the Director Press and Public Relations,Mrs. Funmi Imuetinyan,the Minister noted  the urgency of taking decisive action to mitigate the devastating effects of climate change, such as rising temperatures, extreme weather conditions, and dwindling natural resources .
