TOBI AMUSAN WINS FIRST GOLD AS NIGERIA STARTS STRONG AT AFRICAN ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ACCRA

Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan has delivered Nigeria’s first gold medal at the 24th edition of the Senior African Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.
Amusan, the world record holder, beat her opponents to claim victory in the women’s 100m hurdles on Day 2 of the championships, with compatriot Adaobi Tabugbo also finishing on the podium in third place.

It is Amusan’s third African Championships gold, and the medal was presented to her by World Athletics President Sebastian Coe.
Speaking with journalists at the championships, Amusan urged young athletes not to be deterred by doubt or discouragement in pursuit of their ambitions.

Meanwhile, Nigeria had already opened its medal account on Day 1, with Oladipo and Obiageri delivering silver and bronze in a fiercely contested discus throw competition.
