WATER RESOURCES MINISTRY TO PARTNER WITH SUGAR COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT TO BOOST SUGAR PRODUCTION
The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation has announced its partnership with the National Sugar Development Council to boost sugar production in Nigeria. Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Professor Joseph Terlumun Utsev, made this announcement in Abuja during a courtesy visit from the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council, Mr. Kamar Bakrin.
This partnership aims to provide sustainable water supply to sugarcane farms and factories across the country, ensuring steady production of sugar.
To achieve this, the ministry plans to desilt major rivers, dams, and reservoirs to enable unhindered water supply and tackle perennial flooding ¹. This move will also enhance the blue economy, creating more jobs and boosting Nigeria’s economy.
Professor Utsev expressed optimism about the potential of this partnership, citing the National Sugar Development Council’s contributions to economic growth and investment opportunities.
The Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council, Mr. Kamar Bakrin, explained that the visit was to seek partnership with the ministry in providing sustainable water supply to existing farms and factories.
With this partnership, Nigeria’s sugar production is expected to receive a significant boost, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.
