The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, says all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and 132/33kV Akwanga Transmission Substations are currently unavailable after three towers collapsed along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line.
TCN said the incident occurred at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, during rainy and windy conditions when the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga single circuit line tripped on overcurrent relay protection.
Investigations showed that Towers T78, T79 and T80 collapsed. TCN said it promptly isolated the line for safety.
As a result, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga substations are unavailable and no load can be nominated on the affected feeders for now.
TCN said its engineers are on site assessing the damage to determine requirements for restoration.
The company regretted the inconvenience to electricity customers taking supply from the affected substations and appealed for patience.
”Please bear with us as we make every effort to ensure that necessary repairs are completed as quickly as possible to enable the restoration of bulk power supply,” TCN said.
It said further updates would be provided as restoration progresses.
