DAILY INDEPENDENT, BABANGIDA FOUNDATION, OTHERS HONOUR FCCPC

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has received multiple recognitions from media organisations and industry stakeholders for its work in promoting fair competition, consumer welfare and responsible business practices in Nigeria.

‎

‎The recognitions came from Daily Independent, NaijaTimes, the Aisha Babangida Foundation and BrandXchange. On Thursday, October 22, 2026, NaijaTimes presented the commission’s Chief Executive Officer, Tunji Bello, with the Institutional Integrity and Public Service Award at a ceremony at the FCCPC’s headquarters in Abuja.

‎

‎The Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of NaijaTimes, Ehi Braimah, said the award recognised the commission’s contributions to consumer welfare, competitive markets and responsible business conduct across Nigeria. Braimah was accompanied by the newspaper’s Editorial Board Chairman, James Akpadem, and Editor, Toby Prince.

‎

‎In his response, Bello thanked NaijaTimes for the recognition, describing it as an incentive for the commission to strengthen its commitment to its mandate. He said the commission remained focused on improving consumer welfare and promoting a marketplace where businesses compete fairly and consumers receive just treatment.

‎

‎Also on Thursday, Daily Independent nominated the FCCPC for its Regulator of the Year 2026 award, citing the commission’s efforts in pursuing its regulatory mandate.

‎

‎Earlier in the week, the Women Enterprise Alliance, under the Aisha Babangida Foundation, shortlisted the commission for its Regulatory Body of the Year Award. The foundation said the recognition reflected the role of effective regulation in strengthening business confidence, market participation and sustainable economic development.

‎

‎BrandXchange also named the FCCPC Citizen-Centric MDA of the Year (Federal) for 2026, citing its service delivery, achievements and commitment to excellence.

‎

‎The FCCPC’s Executive Commissioners for Operations and Corporate Services, Louis Odion and Ummusalma Isiaku Rabiu, respectively, alongside the commission’s directors, attended the NaijaTimes award presentation.

The commission said the recognitions would encourage it to sustain efforts to protect consumers and promote fair competition in Nigeria’s marketplace.
