FG SAYS EVALUATION CRITICAL TO ACHIEVING $1 TRILLION ECONOMY BY 2030

ABUJA, Nov 3 – The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to evidence-based development, saying evaluation is critical to achieving a 1 trillion dollars economy by 2030.

‎

‎Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, said this while delivering a keynote address at the 2026 National Association of Evaluators Conference in Abuja.

‎

‎Bagudu said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to evidence-based policymaking, effective development planning and results-driven implementation.

‎

‎He described evaluation as a critical tool for translating Nigeria’s development ambition into tangible results for citizens.

‎

‎The minister said Nigeria’s plan to build a 1 trillion dollars economy by 2030, advance Agenda 2050 and implement the National Development Plan 2026-2030 must be supported by effective implementation and strategic use of resources.

‎

‎He said the Renewed Hope Agenda requires effective institutions, strategic resource allocation, coordinated implementation and clear understanding of development outcomes.

‎

‎”For these interventions to deliver sustainable results, they must reflect local circumstances, complement existing investments and address genuine development needs,” he said.

‎

‎Bagudu called for focus beyond policy formulation to ensure that development plans deliver measurable and sustainable results at the ward level.

‎

‎He commended the National Association of Evaluators for providing a platform for engagement on the role of evaluation in national development.

‎

‎He also called for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to improve accountability and quality of evidence for development planning.
