NIGERIA CENTRE FOR DISEASE CONTROL SAYS NIGERIA AT ‘MODERATE’ RISK, OF HUMAN METAPNEUMOVIRUS,

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, reassuring Nigerians that there is no imminent threat of Human Metapneumovirus, HMPV, spreading into the country.

The agency says it is closely monitoring the situation and urges the public to remain calm.

In a public health advisory issued, NCDC Director General, Dr. Jide Idris, emphasized the agency’s commitment to keeping Nigerians informed and prepared with timely and accurate information.

The NCDC has also debunked rumours that the World Health Organization, WHO, has declared HMPV a public health emergency of international concern, describing the claims as false and urging Nigerians to disregard them.

Human Metapneumovirus, or HMPV, is a respiratory virus that can cause anything from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory infections.
