‎The plan targets building a 1 trillion dollar economy by 2030.

‎Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, said the draft document is designed to produce a coherent, evidence-based and implementation-ready development plan.

‎She said the plan will guide Nigeria’s economic and social transformation over the next five years.

‎She said the successor plan 2026-2030 should be an improvement on the first medium-term plan 2021-2025.

She said it should have credible baselines, realistic projections, clearly identified policies and interventions, adequate financing and measurable indicators.

‎She noted that the review is coming at a time the country is facing economic and social challenges, and must identify constraints to growth and development.

‎She said the plan is organized around seven pillars, including macroeconomic stability, oil, gas and energy security, economic diversification, productive infrastructure, governance, peace and security, and human capital development.

‎She urged stakeholders to use the Renewed Hope Ward-Based Development Framework Survey conducted across 8,809 wards to tackle grassroots economic realities and infrastructure deficits.

‎In a related development, the minister inaugurated a Technical Working Group to review the draft plan.

‎Members of the group are Prof. Olu Ajakaiye and Prof. Mike Obadan as chairmen, Prof. Uche Uwaleke, Prof. Adeola Adenikinju, Prof. Jonathan Aremu, Prof. Emmanuel Oladipo, Prof. Sam Amadi, Prof. Usman Tar, Dr. Nguyan Shaku Feese and Prof. Bongo Adi as members.

Their terms of reference include testing alignment of the vision and strategic objectives with Nigeria Agenda 2050 and the Renewed Hope agenda, reviewing baselines and targets, and submitting a consolidated and implementation-ready plan.

‎Earlier, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Deborah Odoh, said participants are tasked to produce a coherent, credible and implementation-ready plan aligned with national priorities.

She said the team is expected to resolve gaps and inconsistencies, validate data and macroeconomic assumptions, and strengthen links between priorities, interventions and financing.

‎She said the final document must provide a practical basis for the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, annual budgets and sectoral investment decisions.

‎Stakeholders at the retreat were drawn from academia, development partners, the business community and civil society organizations.
