The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament is set to elect its first female speaker, Memounatou Ibrahima.

Ibrahima, who previously served as the third Deputy Speaker in the fifth Legislature, will succeed Senator Barau Jubrin from Nigeria.

The new speaker will be chosen from among them, following the parliament’s rotational system for speakership.
