‎FG CLEARS ALL PENSIONS AS PENCOM ASSETS HIT 31.48 PERCENT GROWTH

‎The Federal Government has paid all pensions in full for almost one million beneficiaries across the country.

The Director General of the National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran, disclosed this Tuesday at the 2026 Annual PenCom Media Conference in Abuja ahead of the National Pension Week.

‎Oloworaran said the 2026 Pension Week is themed “Pension For All and Building A Secure Future Together” and will feature youth engagement and public enlightenment activities.

She said Day One of the week will be Youth Engagement Day to enlighten young Nigerians on the need to start preparing for retirement early.

‎She said President Bola Tinubu will launch PenCare during the week and unveil the Pension Transformation Agenda 2030.

The PenCom boss said pensions for retirees under the defunct Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, scheme were reviewed for the first time since 2005, resulting in significant increase in benefits and settlement of arrears.

She said government approved intervention funds to clear outstanding pension liabilities inherited from previous administrations.

‎Oloworaran said PenCom assets increased from 20.73 percent in July 2024 to 31.48 percent in June 2026, with cumulative recovery of N30.6 billion as of July 2026.

‎She said the commission has set up a committee on infrastructure investment and that the pension industry has committed resources to infrastructure financing through a dedicated initiative, with contributors’ funds protected through strict guideline‎s.

She called on all employees to complete their enrollment and urged employers, especially Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, to comply with the Contributory Pension Scheme to broaden coverage.

She also called on young workers to monitor their Retirement Savings Accounts and take interest in how contributions are invested.

Oloworaran said PenCom will continue reforms to strengthen compliance, expand coverage to the informal sector and improve retirement security for Nigerians.

On the Personal Pension Plan, PPP, she said accredited pension agents were reaching more people across the country, adding that the commission was considering incentives to boost participation and expand access to pension services.
