The Federal Government has commissioned four transmission substations in Kano State, adding 544 megawatts of wheeling capacity to the state and the national grid.
The substations are at Walalambe, Kumbotso, Dakata and Dan-Agundi, executed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria in partnership with Kano State Government.
Walalambe contributes 80 MW with two 40 MVA transformers, Kumbotso receives 300 MVA at 330kV level and 100 MVA transformers, while Dakata and Dan-Agundi each gain an additional 100 MVA transformer at 132kV level.
The projects will strengthen bulk electricity supply to industrial, commercial and residential areas, relieve overloaded substations and meet previously suppressed demand.
At Walalambe, six outgoing feeders will supply Tokarawa Industrial Area, Eastern Bypass, Maiduguri Road, Hadejia Road and adjoining communities.
Lee Group, a major industrial enterprise, has been reconnected to the grid after more than 30 years of operating off-grid, while the fire-damaged Dan-Agundi substation has regained capacity to serve Kano ancient town, the Emir’s Palace and surrounding communities.
The government said the investments will boost manufacturing, small businesses, employment and household welfare.
It said the projects reflect President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and determination to reset the power sector for national development.
