The Federal Government has reaffirmed commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Germany, with focus on economic cooperation, investment promotion and energy partnership.
Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Bagudu, stated this Monday during a courtesy visit by German Ambassador to Nigeria, Stefan Rossel, in Abuja.
Bagudu thanked Germany for longstanding partnership and support for Nigeria’s economic reforms, particularly in early stages of implementation.
He recalled that when German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Nigeria, the government was pursuing major reforms that required support from partners including Germany, World Bank, IMF and European Union.
He said Germany’s support contributed to progress in reforms and commended its role in facilitating high-level engagements in trade, investment and energy cooperation.
Bagudu said discussions had covered cooperation involving 25 million euros and 300 million euros in export credit guarantees, describing them as important areas for continued engagement as Nigeria seeks to expand investment.
He said reforms have created opportunity to place emphasis on attracting investment, strengthening productive capacity and translating partnerships into tangible outcomes.
He assured the ambassador of ministry’s readiness to work closely with Germany to deepen relations.
Earlier, Ambassador Rossel described Nigeria-Germany relationship as strong and longstanding, and reaffirmed commitment to building on achievements and exploring further cooperation.
He said both countries operate in complex global environment but expressed confidence that longstanding ties would sustain mutually beneficial cooperation.
Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, congratulated Rossel on his appointment and stressed need to translate agreements into practical outcomes.
Permanent Secretary, Dr. Deborah Odoh, welcomed the delegation, describing Germany as reliable partner whose technical expertise contributed to Nigeria’s development.
