FEDERAL GOVERNMENT APPROVES 4.8BILLION NAIRA FOR HIV TREATMENT PACKS

The Nigerian government has taken a significant step in the fight against HIV/AIDS by approving N4.8 billion for the acquisition of 150,000 HIV treatment packs.

These packs will be used to provide treatment for four months, and the Minister of Health, Ali Pate, emphasized that the resources are meant to contribute to donor agencies’ offers and demonstrate major support from the government towards vulnerable citizens.

The government’s support aims to reduce the cost of treatment and ensure that life-saving treatment is available to those who need it. This move is particularly important given the US government’s policy pronouncements on development assistance, which may impact the health of Nigerians living with HIV, TB, and malaria.

In addition to the HIV treatment packs, the government is also investing in expanding emergency maternal and child health services and integrating digital health solutions.

According to reports, Nigeria has the second-highest burden of HIV/AIDS in the world, with an estimated three million people living with HIV.
